Volunteer

  • Thanks for your interest in the Columbia Gorge Junior Kayak Club! We are an all-volunteer organization and are always stoked to bring more volunteers on board.

We can use volunteers during pool sessions, Lower White Salmon paddles, and special events! Check our calendar for exact dates and times.

Before volunteering for your first time, sign our volunteer expectations agreement and our online waiver. Then sign up for an event here.

Also, please show up 5-10 minutes early for events so that we can huddle before the kids arrive.

  • There are two lead volunteers for each event. Lead volunteers are responsible for bringing all gear requests to the pool/paddle and returning them at the end of the night. They are also responsible for coordinating all kids and volunteers. This include checking that all participants have signed waivers on file (including assistant volunteers), making sure that anyone who borrows our gear receives outfitting assistance, providing direction to volunteers about their roles and responsibilities for the event, answering any questions from parents, and leading safety talks prior to activities.

Skill Requirements are as follows: Confident combat roll, comfortable on class IV whitewater, current first aid/CPR certification (preferably a WFR), a current river rescue course certification, over age 18, and ability to lead others.

  • Assistant volunteers are responsible for following lead volunteer instructions, assisting kids in outfitting boats, assisting with coordinating participants, and helping check kids into events.

Skills requirements for assistant volunteers are as follows: Comfortable in class III whitewater, confident combat roll, ability to follow instructions, and over age 16
